Guardian Technologies® Expands germguardian® Air Purifier Line In Time for Spring Allergy Season

While this time of year typically means an end to snow for many of us, it is also the start of another seasonal foe: spring allergies. April showers may help new plants and flowers to blossom, but this rain also brings more moss and mold growth, triggering allergy symptoms for the nearly 40 million Americans who suffer from seasonal allergies. However, thanks to new germguardian® brand air purifiers from Guardian Technologies, help, like spring, is here.

According to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI), allergy symptoms are the result of a cumulative effect of multiple allergens and non-allergic triggers, so it is best to minimize exposure to other known allergens at this time. Rather than suffer through the season in misery with sneezing, wheezing and more, seasonal allergy sufferers can take small steps to improve their indoor air quality, such as using an air purifier with HEPA filtration.

To help create a healthier home environment, the germguardian family of air purifiers has expanded with new models that offer multiple levels of filtration – including HEPA – and feature UV-C light technology, which kills airborne germs and bacteria.

The new tower AC4825 3-in-1 Air Cleaning System is a complete air cleaning system that features a sleek, compact design and multiple levels of cleaning to capture allergens, kill airborne germs and bacteria, and fight mold and odors. First, a pre-filter and a charcoal filter combine to capture large particles like dust and lint, as well as destroy household odors. Then, a True HEPA filter captures 99.97 percent of airborne particles, as small as .3 microns in size, such as dust mites, debris, mold spores, plant pollens and pet dander. Finally, the power of UV-C light works to help kill airborne germs and bacteria, while Titanium Dioxide is activated by the UV-C light to decompose odor molecules caused by smoking, cooking and pets.

UV-C technology has been used for more than 100 years in various applications to kill germs on surfaces, in the air and in the water. Many hospitals use UV-C to sanitize and it has been proven to kill up to 99.9 percent of germs. Today, thanks to emerging technology, the power of UV-C has been harnessed and is now available for personal use in an array of applications, including a number of home sanitization products from germguardian.

The AC4825 3-in-1 Air Cleaning System is perfect for allergy sufferers. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics Allergy & Immunology, doctors recommend HEPA air filtration systems to reduce exposure to indoor asthma triggers*. The machine operates quietly and processes the air at approximately 155 square feet per hour. Other features include a CADR 100+ rating and a three-year limited warranty. The AC4825 is now available and retails for under $129.

Guardian Technologies is also introducing a new digital LCD display model, the AC4850, which is a complete air cleaning systems that offers multi-stage True HEPA filtration and odor reduction, as well as UV-C light technology to kill common germs and bacteria. The convenient digital LCD display feature allows for easy setting and timing of the power, fan and UV-C control. The AC4850 retails under $179.

The final addition to the product mix is a table top air cleaning system perfect for the home or office: the AC4010. Small but powerful, its convenient compact size processes the air in a 200-square-foot room every hour. This complete air cleaning system contains four powerful layers that capture 99.97 percent of airborne allergens, kill airborne mold spores, and fight germs and unwanted odors. The AC4010 retails for $69.99.

Quick and Easy Ways to Minimize Spring Allergens

•   Keep windows closed at all times to prevent pollen from drifting into your home.  Instead, cool your home with air conditioning, which also cleans and dries the air (American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology).

•   Cleanse indoor air and kill airborne germs and bacteria with an air purifying system. Germ Guardian® has expanded its family of air purifiers with new models that offer multiple levels of filtration – including HEPA – and include UV-C light technology, which kills airborne germs and bacteria. The new additions include tower or table-top models to fit any need (www.germguardian.com).

•   Keep your dryer vent clear, as lint build-up can cause an excess of dust in your house (www.emaxhealth.com).

•   Minimize activities in the early morning – between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. – when pollen is typically released (www.covenanthealth.org).

•   Allergens such as pollen tend to stick to fabrics, which allows them to be deposited on furniture and other surfaces when you come in from outside. Wash bedding, pajamas and clothes as often as possible to rid them of troublesome allergens during the spring season (www.webmd.com).

•   Shower after spending time outside – pollen can also collect on your hair and skin, aggravating symptoms (American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology).

•   Catch small dust and allergen particles in the home by using a vacuum cleaner equipped with HEPA filtration, such as the Germ Guardian® GGU350TT 2-in-1 Upright & Canister Vacuum or the GGU300 2-in-1 Upright & Canister Vacuum (www.germguardian.com).

•   Wash bedding once a week in hot water to help get rid of dust mites and other allergy triggers (American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology).

•   For patients with grass pollen allergy, remaining indoors when grass is mowed and avoiding playing in fields of tall grass may be helpful.  (American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology).

Lindstrom Wants Homeowners to Breathe Easier this Spring

Springtime means allergy season for many Americans; the uncomfortable coughing, sneezing, and wheezing.  According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, asthma and allergies strike 1 out of every 4 Americans and are the leading chronic diseases in the U.S. among all age groups.  And it’s not just outdoor air that’s the culprit.  The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) reports indoor air levels of many pollutants may be 2-5 times, and occasionally, more than 100 times higher than outdoor levels. Indoor air pollutants are particularly concerning because statistics show most people spend as much as 90% of their time indoors (American Lung Association).

“The consequences of indoor airborne contaminants are poor health, reduced home comfort, in addition to reduced efficiency of your heating and cooling system,” states Joe Canosa, General Manager of Lindstrom Air Conditioning, a local heating and cooling expert.  “Your heating and cooling system is the vehicle in which indoor air is circulated throughout your home.  Keeping your indoor air healthy means first, keep your heating and cooling system maintained on a regular basis and second, look at products that treat the air in your whole house.”

Canosa has some suggestions for homeowners to stay healthy and breathe easier this spring.

First, change your heating and/or cooling air filter on a regular basis.  Air filters are designed to collect dust and dirt, pollen, bacteria, smoke, smog, pet dander and plant and mold spores.  By changing (or cleaning) your filter on a regular basis you’ll help cut down on the amount of pollutants in the air of your home.  Also, keeping a clean air filter improves the energy efficiency and prolongs the life of your heating and cooling system, says Canosa.

According to Canosa, another way to improve the quality of air in your home is to upgrade the type of filter in your heating and cooling system.  If you switch from a standard 1” filter to a higher quality HEPA filter you’ll increase the filtration of particles in the air of your home.  One thing to note, a MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) rating is the standard method for comparing the efficiency of air filters.  The higher the rating, the better the filter is at removing particles in the air. Filters with higher ratings will not only remove more particles from the air, they will also remove smaller particles.

Another great way to improve the quality of air in your home is through air cleaners or air purifiers, states Canosa.  Both of these products work through your heating and cooling system, improving the air throughout your home.  Canosa states, “A portable air purifier or cleaner will only be effective in the room that it is placed in, whereas a whole house air cleaning system will clean the air in your entire home.”

Whole house air cleaners help protect your furnishings and save you the time and aggravation of continuous dusting and cleaning. Canosa states, “Whole-house air cleaners provide relief from irritants by removing very small particulates from the air and preventing them from being re-circulated.”

According to Canosa, an air purifier whole-house filtration system will capture small particles and microorganisms, and safely remove and destroy chemical vapors and odors.  Canosa states, “One of the best products on the market today is the Trane CleanEffects?air purifier.  The Trane CleanEffects?air purifier outperforms even the best HEPA filter.  It’s designed to deliver air that is cooled (or heated), thoroughly conditioned, meticulously filtered and cleaned of up to 99.98% of airborne allergens that pass through the filter.”

Lastly, the NADCA (National Duct Cleaning Association) recommends homeowners take off the cover of an air vent and look down the vent with a mirror and flashlight or digital camera.  If the ducts are covered with dust or debris, it’s time to have your ducts cleaned.  NADCA says a thorough duct cleaning will not only clean up the air inside your home but also help your cooling (or heating) system to work more efficiently, saving you money. For suggestions on improving your indoor air quality, contact Lindstrom Air Conditioning, your local expert for all of your heating, cooling and air quality needs.   “It’s our goal to help you breathe easier this spring!” says Canosa.
